The Arkansas Community Action Agency (CAA) offers opportunities for low- and middle-income Arkansans to improve their family stability and self-supports.
Low-income people have the opportunity to be engaged members of their communities through volunteering and other civic activities.
People with disabilities and the elderly are provided with support and emergency services that help them maintain an independent living status.
Infants, children, and young people are provided with development services so that they can make full use of their potential.
The Arkansas CAA partners with a network of community partners to provide opportunities for families to improve living conditions in low-income communities.
Services provided:
Energy Efficiency and Utility Assistance Programs
Utility costs for low-income households consume a significant amount of their monthly income.
The increased energy efficiency of these households not only reduces their running costs but also their energy consumption.
LIHEAP
The Arkansas Community Action Agency provides utility assistance to low-income families through the federally funded Low-Income Families Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
This program operates on a first-come, first-served basis.
The funding is limited.
LIHEAP regular assistance program
They provide the payment of a fixed benefit based on monthly income and household size.
Revenue guidelines are revised annually.
Generally, LIHEAP services are paid directly to utilities on behalf of the applicant.
Qualified families may receive assistance once per program.
LIHEAP Crisis Intervention Program
Provides assistance to low-income households to avoid disconnection or to restore service after disconnection.
Government policy sets the maximum amount of support available per household.
Benefits are paid directly to the utility companies.
Eligible families may receive assistance once per plan.
A copy of the closing notice is required.
Information needed:
- Proof of residence
- Proof of income for all family members and for all sources received in the month prior to the request for assistance
Proof of income may include:
- Copies of checkbooks with full-time, part-time, or self-employed wage before tax
- Statement by the Department of Employment Security for all unemployed adults
- Statement of the Office of Child Support Enforcement, if one or more natural parents are not at home
- A copy of the reward letter or bank statement showing automatic deposits for Social Security, SSI, Veterans Administration, or other pension or disability payments
- Complete information for all family members (names, dates of birth, social security numbers)
- Copy of the electricity bill
Customers who receive benefits from LIHEAP, SNAP, SSI, and TANF are considered Categorically Eligible, which means they automatically qualify for LIHWAP benefits.
